Beauty is the working name for a documentary in development that gathers everything we have been filming under one frame. The 9 chapters below are nine ways into the same argument: that classical skill, slow attention, and art made for ordinary people still matter in the age of AI. Each chapter pulls from the same source pool of interviews, dinner footage, and studio time. We are building the thing.
"You guys are ambassadors to a type of art that is human and connected to real souls."Andrew Conru · Fellows Dinner · April 2, 2026
Beauty is being assembled as nine threads from the same source pool. Each chapter is a different argument, a different audience, a different cut of the same footage. Click any chapter to open it inside the working portal with the script, quotes, and timecodes.
The fellows in the studio. The dinner that named the framework. The working portal where every transcript and paper-edit lives. Each chapter pulls from this pool.
One film with nine cuts is not nine films. Beauty is the umbrella because the underlying argument is single: that classical skill, slow attention, and art made for ordinary people still matter, even after AI got good. The chapters above are nine ways to make that argument, each pointed at a different audience.
The Seattle Prize is one thread, not the film. It is the strongest one right now because it gives Beauty bodies, brushes, and a studio with people in it. Six classically trained painters left their lives to spend a year painting in Pioneer Square. We have been filming them since October.
Andrew's own story is another thread. Burnout, painting recovery, the enough principle, the 2026 AI sprint. That thread is being built as its own film at conru.com/film/passion/. Some of its footage will land inside Beauty's "Can Art Heal You?" chapter. The two films feed each other.
The anchor is rehumanism. The phrase is Andrew's, but the practice is the fellows'. Painting from life. Slowness. Real materials. Brush strokes a stranger can read. The April 2 dinner, where Andrew named the framework on camera, is Beauty's spine.
Year One is the proof of concept. If the work moves people, Year Two becomes an institution. If it doesn't, we have a beautiful, honest, finite document of an attempt. Either is worth filming.
The new ninth chapter is where I'd start. The fellows are the way in. The dinner gives you the philosophy. The portal is the workshop.
