Paint Align

Setup

1. Reference photo

The original you are painting from Click or drop

2. Painting photo

A photo of the current painting Click or drop (several at once become layers). It lines itself up automatically.

Tip: shoot square-on, with your easel still and even light.

3. Align

When both photos are in, Auto-align finds the same details in both and lines the painting up with the reference.

Which one should I use?

Auto-align — matches hundreds of details (eyes, edges, corners) between the painting photo and the reference. Works even if the photo is at an angle or shows the room. It runs by itself when you add a painting photo.

Four corners — click the painted area’s corners, clockwise from top-left. Use it if Auto-align says it couldn’t line things up (an early sketch, for example).

Match points — click the same landmarks on both pictures, for full control.

Fit to frame — only scales and centres the photo. Use it if the photo is already cropped exactly to the painting.

On the original — un-skews the painting to match the reference. Best for spotting drawing mistakes. On the painting photo — keeps your easel snapshot and lays the reference on top.
