Candace Owens

I painted this portrait in 2021, inspired by a moment when Candace Owens made a controversial but, to me, courageous observation: that many challenges within the Black community stem from internal cultural and structural issues. While I recognize and care deeply about the external forces of injustice, discrimination, and historical wrongs, I found her willingness to speak candidly, despite strong resistance, an act of uncommon boldness. I strongly disagree with many of her recent public positions, and this portrait should not be read as a blanket endorsement. But at the time, I admired her conviction, her strength, and her striking presence. As an artist, I was drawn to capture not the politics, but the person – her beauty and intensity that compelled me to paint her.
